Rome wasn’t built in a day. Important work takes time. Third graders at Jefferson are enjoying learning about Ancient Rome in Unit 4 of their new reading series, Amplify CKLS. They have learned that engineering and technology were just two of the great contributions the Romans gave to us that have impacted the world. Mrs. Shinn’s students had a couple of days before Christmas break and decided that since you can’t build Rome in a day, they would see how much they could build in two days. Are you familiar with the Coliseum, Circus Maximus and aqueducts? Our third graders are, and they love to share what they have learned about Ancient Rome.
In 3rd grade when you study Roman history, it involves using plastic elephants and other figures to recreate the Punic Wars.
Congratulations to our December Students of the Month… Ethan Johnson and Kennedy DeBoer! Congrats you two! Keep up the good work. #jeffpride
Thursday, families received the opportunity to build a santa cocoa, play snoopy bingo, dance to Christmas music, make an ornament, hula hoop, ride scooters, play with a parachute, eat chili or chicken noodle soup and cinnamon rolls. JCHL partnered with Central and Jefferson to provide physical activities from physical therapists and a medical student all in one night. The evening came to an end after families and staff hopped on a bus to ride to Heritage, Gardenside and Cedar Wood to sing Christmas Carols to residents. It was a fantastic fun night for all.
The Jeffs’ Best Award was created by the Fairbury Public School Board of Education to highlight and celebrate the great work of our staff.
On behalf of the Board of Education, I would like to congratulate Mr. Cory Schweitzer as our first recipient of the “Jeffs’ Best” Award!!
Congratulation Cory! Some example statements from his nominations, include “Cory works to meet and greet each student every day and students are laughing and smiling after interacting with Cory.” Another exclaims that “Cory has touched every student with a simple hello, high five and smile.”
Anyone in Jeffland is invited to nominate any Fairbury Public Schools Employee by filling out the form below:
To raise awareness of American Enterprise Week, members of the FHS FBLA organization visited the fourth graders at Jefferson, on November 12th. Next week the fourth graders will be coming up to the high school to make cookies for the FHS students to buy. American Enterprise Week is about the freedom to start and run any business we choose.
Each cookie is worth 50 cents. Don’t forget to bring your money to school next Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday to buy cookies and support the FBLA organization.
