Fairbury Finishes 4th at Home Invite

This past week the Lady Jeffs traveled to Crete on Tuesday to face an always tough Cardinal squad. Fairbury came home with a 0-8 loss where they just weren’t able to get the bats going, not collecting a hit in the game. Cobie Cole pitched 3+ innings and tossed a strikeout, with Olivia L’Ecuyer also spending time on the mound for Fairbury.
Saturday started out fire for the hosting Lady Jeffs as they topped the No.1 seeded Scottsbluff team 11-9. “Against Scottsbluff, every aspect of the game worked in our favor. We had energy, effort, & execution working together,” relayed Coach Garver. It really was a total team Victory; Casidy Sipek led Fairbury at the plate going 3 for 4 (1 HR), and scoring 3 Runs while adding 4 RBIs. Also having big games for Fairbury were; Madi Ohlde (2 Hits, 4 RBIs), Lauren Wanamaker & TeLia Cervantes (1 Hit, 1 Run each), Lexi Mau with a long stat line (1 Hit, 1 RBI, a Stolen Base & scoring 3 Runs). Jayden Tracey (1 Run) and Izzy Ohlde (2 Runs) also got their names in the scorebook. Cole had a solid outing pitching 4+ innings and recording 3 strikeouts, Sam Schmidt also pitched for Fairbury.
Their final two games against Elkhorn North (0-12 loss) & Milford (1-9 loss) what was found was once again lost as the Lady Jeffs couldn’t get the bats going. Sipek, Izzy Ohlde & Mau each tallied a hit in the Milford game with Malayne DeBoer scoring Fairbury’s lone Run. Against the Wolves & Eagles; Cole, L’Ecuyer & Schmidt all split time pitching.
Looking ahead to this week, Coach Garver gave her thoughts, “We have to keep grinding out our at bats & staying confident in the box. We need to remember what that game (Scottsbluff) felt like, and continue to come out ready to play in that way everyday.” Fairbury travels to Auburn Tuesday, hosts Milford Thursday & finishes at the Ashland-Greenwood tournament on Saturday.

Fairbury Battles on the Court

The Lady Jeffs were tested on the court this past week, coming away with two hard fought Victories. Tuesday Fairbury hosted Milford, with Fairbury coming out on top after a 5 set war. Fairbury won the opening set, with Milford evening it up taking the second. The Lady Jeffs went up 2-1 after the third, but the Eagles came back, winning the fourth, sending the match to a deciding fifth set. Fairbury went out and won the fifth set and the match.
In Thursday’s match Fairbury battled Auburn on the road and came home with a 3-1 Win. Auburn took the first set which lit a fire in the Lady Jeffs who won the next three sets to win the match.
Coach Hinrichs was pleased with his team, but is taking no match for granted; “It was a good week on the floor for the Lady Jeffs with 2 wins. Milford proved to be a tough match for us at home as expected and Thursday at Auburn we got a win on the road which is always good. We are trying to get through some recent injuries and soreness so hopefully the weekend will help. Next week proves to be a big week with the Tuesday match at always tough Thayer Central and Thursday/Saturdays tournament at Malcolm always has tough competition.”

For the 2nd week in a row, the Fairbury Jeffs defense leads the team to another win!! Fairbury Jeffs take the win at home over Falls City, 56-7. Fairbury showed their diversity, scoring in all 3 phases; with offense, defense and special teams all putting points on the board. The Jeffs hit the road next week to take on Schuyler at 6 pm for another round of Friday night lights!

From coach Edson: “It was a great night to be a Jeff! Putting up 56 points and scoring on all 3 sides of the ball was awesome to see. Shout out to the special teams for creating 3 turnovers and scoring on two of them! It was a great team win and it’s very exciting to be 2-0!”
