Senior Spotlight – Breona Meyer

Melissa Dux Receives Secondary Educator of the Year Award

Melissa Dux received the Mountain-Plains Business Education Association Outstanding Contributions to Business Education by a Secondary Teacher of the Year. According to an administrator at her school, Melissa is dedicated to her craft. You can see that by the time she has spent in learning and always perfecting her Business Class Teachings.

Two Masters Degrees don’t just happen overnight. She started teaching at our school in 2013 and has gained or achieved so many experiences since then. And the best of it is, she then passes the knowledge gained from those experiences onto her students. Not only does she pass it on to students, but she shares it with other teachers in our school and our state and even on the national level. In this light she has become an Exceptional Teacher, Peer and Mentor.

She often works and researches different topics so that she can incorporate that brand new, up to date information in her classes. This type of information would be more related to actual business dealings and not just theory. This makes the lesson more realistic in its concept of what the students will experience in their future jobs as business leaders. By doing this the students experience fun, new and invigorating projects or lessons.

Humility is a key trait of Melissa. She is very approachable by students, parents, staff and administration. Even though she is quite possibly one of the best teachers I have ever met, you would never know that as she exhibits great Humility. Nothing is too big or too small for her. She is a team player within the school system, a leader and mentor to fellow teachers and students and above all just a great person to be around.

Perform to follow the clinic time at 5:00pm in Armory
FHS Cheer camp t-shirt
Admission into Varsity football game
$25.00

Clinic: Friday, September 30th from 2:30-5:00

Where: Fairbury Armory (Jefferson North)

Performance: 7:00pm, First half of Varsity football game

Participants need to be at the football game at 6:30pm to check-in. Free admission for the participant only. Participants will be free to leave with a parent or guardian at half time of the game. Please send a small snack and water bottle with your child in their backpack. We also ask that your child wears black shorts or leggings to the game.

Alex Myers Receives the Jeffs’ Best Award!

The Jeffs’ Best Award was created by the Fairbury Public Schools Board of Education to highlight and celebrate the great work of our staff. On behalf of the Board of Education, I would like to congratulate Alex Myers, Central Elementary Paraprofessional, as the recipient of the September Jeffs’ Best Award! These are her nomination statements:

Alex is an amazing para. She goes above and beyond to help all students. She jumps in to help where ever and who ever needs it.

This is the first year I have been privileged enough to work alongside Alex. In just a short time of having her in the classroom with me I have quickly noticed the love she has for her job and the students she works with. She goes above and beyond to advocate for the students, is calm and patient with them, and holds them accountable. It is very apparent that the students she works with listen, respect, and most importantly love her. She has an incredible way of quickly calming students when they are vividly upset and does so with very minimal disruption towards the rest of the class. Although she is mostly one-on-one, she is always the first to jump in and help with others, when she notices help is needed. She is a silent super hero in our classroom and her hard work and caring, positive attitude does not go unnoticed.

Our district is blessed to have Alex, and she is well deserving of this honor.

Fairbury Over Tri County in Two

The Lady Jeffs will be riding the momentum of winning 3 straight matches into the coming week. The week began on Tuesday with a 1-3 loss to Centennial, followed by another 1-3 loss to Crete on Thursday. Fairbury righted the ship on Homecoming weekend at their home invite. Tri County fell victim to the Lady Jeffs first, followed by Sandy Creek and finally Holdrege, with Fairbury winning each match 2-0.

“Our week started off Tuesday where we lost at Centennial in a 4 set match. We lost the first 2 sets but didn’t quit and came back winning the 3rd set and competing to the end the 4th set. Thursday brought another road contest (our 9th straight) against Crete. Crete presented a different type of game then Centennial as they had 2 strong players on offense that gave us some trouble. I felt we played better then we had been playing but it wasn’t enough to get the win,” commented Coach Bob Hinrichs on the team’s performance earlier in the week.

Coach Hinrichs continued, “You could just see the weight lifted off of their shoulders winning that first set (against Tri County) after getting behind early. The second set provided more positive offense and a win to start off the tournament. The second game against Sandy Creek seemed to be a much more relaxed team playing on the floor. All 13 players got action in the 2 set win against Sandy Creek. A final game in the tournament against Holdrege was the final step for the day. After getting down 6-12 the ladies found a way to fight back with a mix of good play on offense, at the net and defensive coverage. Set 2 provided more of the same in a close hard fought battle to the end. Effort was the difference in Saturday’s play. I saw players making saves out of bounds near the bleachers, diving on the floor to pick up tips and setting balls from their knees after making a previous play. That combined with coming together and playing as a team will be what carries them through the remainder of the season.”

Hinrichs carried on about the Lady Jeffs, “I have to give a shout out to Alyse Petersen who had been fighting back problems for a couple weeks, a head cold for about a week and making a move from setter to right side in Saturdays tournament. She proved to be a team player and played well offensively and defensively in the role. We are blessed to have players on this squad who can be utilized in various situations. This makes changes a lot easier to be implemented when necessary.”

Fairbury travels to Beatrice Monday, then hosts Superior on Tuesday.
