Geometry students calculated the height of the giant light pole on the east side of the football field. Cooperative groups of four students each fulfilled their responsibility to measure three segments and solve for a missing value. Using similar triangles theorems, Angle-Angle-Similarity allowed students to set up a proportion. The result was 83 feet.
FAIRBURY JUNIORS AND SENIORS ATTEND SCC BEATRICE COLLEGE FAIR
On October 20th, Fairbury Jr-Sr High School juniors and seniors attended a college fair at SCC-Beatrice. Colleges from around the region had tables set up where students could briefly talk with each admissions representative as well as gather materials from those respective colleges. This information will provide an opportunity for students to make an informed decision about which college is best for them.
Fairbury Band Has Successful Marching Season
The Fairbury High School Band has had a busy and successful marching season. The band performed at four halftime performances for home football games, played the National Anthem and fight song for the home Cross Country meet, participated in the Homecoming Parade, traveled to the Heritage Care Center, and marched in the Harvest of Harmony Parade on Saturday, October 3.
While the band performed their final marching show of the season on Friday, October 16, students are eagerly looking forward to the transition into concert band. The band invites you to their Winter Concert on Sunday, December 13 at 2p.m. in the Burkley Fine Arts Center. The concert will also feature the choir and show choir.

The Science Guy
The third graders have been discovering science through distance learning this year. Our science guy, Derek from Educational Service Unit 3, has had us explore making root beer to learn the properties of matter, penny boats to learn about buoyancy and mass, and oreo moons to learn about the lunar cycle. The third grade enjoy the hands on learning (and of course the treats) as they gain knowledge about important scientific concepts.
Cross Country Runners Are Headed To State!
Seven cross country runners qualified for the state cross country meet! The girls team qualified for the third year in a row by placing third at the district meet last Thursday in Hastings. Emily Burkley led the Jeffs by placing 8th. Other medalists for the girls were Lilibeth Estrada – 9th and Shaye Stall – 11th. Halle Knigge was 21st, Anna Schouboe was 24th and Autumn Branson was 25th. Garret Ragland earned his first trip to the state meet by placing 11th. Other members of the girls team are MaKayla Fletcher and Josey Zabokrtsky. Congratulations to all runners!

Kindergarten Field Trip to Roca Berry Farm!
On Friday, October 9th the kindergarten class went on their field trip to Roca Berry Farm! The weather was beautiful and the students had a wonderful time playing. They also enjoyed going on a hayrack ride to the pumpkin patch and finding the perfect pumpkin to bring home. Hope you enjoy these pictures from our fun day!
Local FFA Members Umland and Black Selected as Members of National FFA Chorus
Ryan Umland and Madison Black, members of the Fairbury FFA chapter in Fairbury,NE, will be on stage and in the spotlight Oct. 28-31 during the 2014 National FFA Convention & Expo in Louisville, Ky.
Umland, a senior and the son of Matt and Deb Umland, and Black, a junior and the daughter of Allan and Terri Black have been selected for the National FFA Chorus.
The National FFA Chorus will perform several times during the 2015 National FFA Convention & Expo, adding excitement and motivation to the sessions through their music.
Umland and Black will join fellow chorus members in Louisville three days before convention begins for rehearsals.
The National FFA Organization provides leadership, personal growth and career success training through agricultural education to 610,240 student members in grades seven through 12 who belong to one of 7,665 local FFA chapters
throughout the U.S., Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands.
