FBLA visits fourth graders, discusses American Enterprise Week

by

To raise awareness of American Enterprise Week, members of the FHS FBLA organization visited the fourth graders at Jefferson, on November 12th. Next week the fourth graders will be coming up to the high school to make cookies for the FHS students to buy. American Enterprise Week is about the freedom to start and run any business we choose.

Junior Abby Judd bids off a sucker for an example of American Enterprise Week. In this game they gave the kids paper money and had an auction on how much money they would give for the sucker. Photo by C. York
Sophomore Ethan Smith hands out surveys to the kids to find out what cookies are their favorite. Next Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday the 4th grade students and FBLA members will be making and selling cookies. Photo by C. York
Senior Jaelle Johnson hands out coloring sheets for the kids to color. They will be hanging them up in the hallways to advertise how they will be selling cookies next week. Photo by C. York

Each cookie is worth 50 cents. Don’t forget to bring your money to school next Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday to buy cookies and support the FBLA organization.

Students Celebrate Red Ribbon Week

Central and Jefferson students celebrated Red Ribbon Week Oct. 28-Nov. 1.  Red Ribbon Week promotes and encourages students to make healthy choices and choose to be drug free.  This year’s theme is, Send a Message. Stay Drug Free!  Students participated in many fun activities such as dressing up, designing drug free posters and pledging to live a drug free life.  On Tuesday, October 29th, the Energizers Club presented to 3-6th grade students about why they choose to be drug free.

To celebrate Red Ribbon Week, students 3rd-6th grade were encouraged to design a poster centered around drug-free awareness.  Students were excited to put their artistic talents to work and there were many fantastic entries.  Unfortunately, we were only able to select one.  Members of the Jefferson Community Coalition voted on the top 11 posters and selected #9 as the winner; a design by 6th grade student, Sophie Julin-McCleary.  The billboard is scheduled to be installed Monday, November 11th and will be up for 4 weeks.  It will be located off of HWY 136 as you head east to Beatrice.  This contest was sponsored by the Jefferson Community Coalition.  The mission of the coalition is to reduce substance abuse among youth and to develop a safe and healthy community through collaborative planning, community action and policy advocacy.

Thanks to everyone who participated and joined in on the fun!  You showed everyone that you are taking care of your mind and body in a healthy way today and everyday!

Students Celebrate Constitution Day

The third grade students at Jefferson Intermediate were asked by Fairbury’s Ouivera Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution to ring bells that they made on September 17th in honor of Constitution Day.  They wanted the students to know about this great document and the freedoms it gives. They also believe that it is important that the students learn to cherish and appreciate these freedoms. The administration, teachers, and students put together a short program to recognize and honor the signing of the Constitution 232 years ago.
