Lincoln Pius X                              73

The girl’s team remains undefeated, and the boy’s came away with a secondary state qualifying time in the 200 free relay.   Lincoln Pius is always a strong team and a team with a lot of depth. They always seem to push our swimmers to do their best. Our swimmers really rallied around one another tonight and provided strong encouragement to the team.  Tonight was also our senior recognition night.  We honored 10 seniors. Each of them has been major contributors to the success of the team over the past 4 years.  From Beatrice: Hayden Stevens, Averi Kolb, Hannah Essink, from Fairbury: Mikwena Lierman, Camryn Wisnieski, Josi Mans, Briaunna Knothe, Norris: Noah Bratt, Crystal Craft, and Xander Nelson.  I am so proud of these athletes.  Many of them have been a member of our team for 4 years, many of them are state qualifiers, and all of them are well rounded students and athletes.  Their leadership, talent and support will be missed next year.  We wish them all the best in their futures.

Along with the boys 200 freestyle relay, we had 5 more state qualifying times, 30 personal best performances and 27 first and second place finishes.

 State qualifiers include:

Boys 200 freestyle relay; Noah Pomajzl,  Reed Mueller, Ian Scheele, Isaiah Jacobsen

Mikwena Lierman bettered her automatic time in the 50 Free and improved her 100 butterfly qualifying time.

Mikya Lierman improved her 50 freestyle secondary state qualifying time, she less than 4 tenths from an automatic state qualifying time.

Crystal Craft had a secondary state qualifying time in the 100 breaststroke

The girl’s 200 medley relay; Josi Mans, Crystal Craft, Mikwena Lierman and Mikya Lierman, improved their secondary state qualifying time.

BNFF vs. Lincoln North Star Swim Results

Both the girl’s and boy’s teams came away with a win tonight against Lincoln North Star. The girls are currently undefeated in their dual competitions. We have a lot of depth and many talented swimmers on both our boys and girls teams.  Everyone has contributed greatly to our successes this season.  This has been a tough week for the team, many were not able to practice at all this week due to the weather, and some only were able to have one practice this week.

Our swimmers work very hard at practice and many have goals to qualify and improve their times before the state meet.  We have asked a lot from both the girl’s and our boy’s teams, to step out of their comfort zones and try new events

When It’s Snowing, There’s Only One Thing to Do

In Art class first graders listened to the picturebook Snowballs, by Lois Ehlert, and were inspired to create their own snowman collages. On the first day, students painted beautiful watercolor resist backgrounds (using white crayons to draw snowflakes) and sprinkled the wet, painted paper with salt which created a speckled texture. The next class period students chose from a variety of materials to make their own unique snowman. As you can see, the boys and girls were very proud of their masterpieces!

It was nice to come away with a win for both the girl’s and boy’s team tonight. The girls are currently undefeated in their dual competitions. We have a lot of depth and many talented swimmers on the team this season. So, we are able to have many swimmers compete in different events, and that contributed greatly to our success. But, having many other athletes to help us fill all the events and spread out the points has also contributed to the girls and boys team success. Also, having swimmers and divers who are willing to compete in different events helped us achieve the win, 29 personal best swims, 16 first place finishes and 12 second place finishes.

Taste Testing

Fifth grade students did a “test tasting” in science. They designed investigations to determine whether items they can’t see in water are still present.
They had to test sugar, salt, vinegar and lemon juice. They took a little sip of each without water added and then again with water added. They recorded their findings.
From these investigations, students used the evidence to suggest that they are still in the water and just cannot be seen.

Students Celebrate “PRIDE” Behavior

Second graders earned points/rewards during Library class for showing “PRIDE” behavior.  They chose “Chromebook” time playing educational games with Prodigy/Math as the number one favorite.

Valentines for Veterans

Some valentine love might be needed even more this year than in past years. As they approach Valentine’s Day, students aren’t forgetting the men and women who serve our country. They have been hard at work creating Valentines for Veterans.  This is a special anniversary year for the Valentines for Veterans project…the 10th anniversary. The program has grown from approximately 400 the first year to over 1,400 last year.
The veterans are always very appreciative of receiving the valentines.
