Children’s Author/Illustrator, Bruce Arant Presents to Elementary Students

On October 24th, Bruce Arant presented to the elementary students of Fairbury.  Bruce Arant—a father of three—writes from years of personal experience of “tucking-in” at bedtime, when he has fielded all possible childhood excuses to stay awake just a little bit longer. Prior to becoming a full-time writer and illustrator, Arant enjoyed a career of nearly 20 years in the magazine and custom publishing industry, where he held a variety of editorial and creative positions. He lives in Omaha, Nebraska.

He wrote and illustrated Simpson’s Sheep Won’t Go To Sleep (2013 Peter Pauper Press) as well as that book’s sequel, Simpson’s Sheep Just Want to Sleep (2017). His first Simpson’s Sheep book was a 2015-16 Nebraska Golden Sower nominee.  The book also won two 2014 Nebraska Book Awards, and in 2016 it was appointed to the Nebraska 150 Book List.

“The Pride of FPS Goes Gold”

The Pride of FPS just wrapped up their busiest week yet. Friday morning, the high school band travelled to Central Elementary and Jefferson Intermediate to welcome students as they came to school and walked the halls with the football team.
That afternoon, the band marched downtown in the Fairbury Homecoming Parade. As they made their way around the square, they performed their marching song “Funkytown”, school song, and drum cadence. At the conclusion of the parade, the band played the school song once again to welcome the homecoming royalty candidates, especially one of our own, Trinity Hotchkiss! The band would like to congratulate your 2024 Homecoming King and Queen Feddy and Nadalie Leon!
Lastly, the band cheered on the Jeffs football team and performed for pep band that evening at the Homecoming football game. The theme for this homecoming week and game was Retro Disco. In response to that the Fairbury High School Marching Band donned their previous uniforms which display our school colors, crimson and gold. The students had lots of fun wearing a part of FPS history and embracing the name “The Golden Pride”.
