Seniors Visit Central Community College-Hastings

The Senior Class of 2018 took their first College Access College Visit this fall to CCC-Hastings.  Mrs. Biehl chose CCC to show the seniors that there are other community colleges out there other than just SCC.  Obviously, we are most familiar with SCC because of it’s close proximity to home, but CCC provides many great opportunities and facilities as well, while being just a bit further away from home.  On their visit, the group listened from admissions personnel, toured part of the campus facilities, toured a dorm room as well as had lunch in the cafeteria.  Whether a student is 2-year bound or 4-year bound, seeing as many campuses as possible proves to be beneficial.  The seniors will attend UNL on Wednesday, October 4th to see what a 4-year University has to offer.

SOPHOMORES TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THE COLLEGE ACCESS GRANT BY VISITING DOANE UNIVERSITY

On Wednesday April 19th, Fairbury Jr-Sr High School sophomores were able to visit Doane University in Crete, NE.  The day included a campus tour, meeting with admissions and financial aid, information about Doane athletics/activities, and the opportunity to experience lunch in the campus cafeteria.  A great day was had by all.  This opportunity provided students with exposure to a college campus and the ability to envision themselves attending college someday.

FRESHMEN TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THE COLLEGE ACCESS GRANT BY VISITING CENTRAL COMMUNITY COLLEGE-HASTINGS

On Wednesday April 19th, Fairbury Jr-Sr High School freshmen took a college visit to Central Community College-Hastings.  CCC-Hastings is a 2-year community college that offers a variety of majors including an academic transfer program.  The day provided a campus tour, discussion from financial aid and admissions, numerous hands on activities and an opportunity to dine in the campus cafeteria.  This visit provided everyone with some exposure to a college campus as well as the opportunity to see what college life can offer.

The Class of 2021 Takes Their First College Visit to Southeast Community College in Beatrice

For the second year in a row, Fairbury Public Schools was awarded the 8th Grade Visit Grant through EducationQuest Foundation.  A $500 grant is awarded to participating schools to assist in funding a college visit to the school of their choice.  Fairbury Public Schools chose Southeast Community College for the second year partly due to proximity but also to get some exposure to a smaller college campus for their first visit.  The trip to SCC included information on financial aid, KnowHowToGo to College information, a campus tour of all the departments, as well as tour of the Ag Facility.  They were able to see how drones were used by the ag department as well as some real livestock.  It was a great experience for these students.
