The Beatrice, Norris, Fairbury, and Freeman Coop Swim and Dive Teams had a
busy weekend competing at Kearney High School. The teams competed in a
double dual on Friday, January 10th and then a nine team invitational on Saturday, January 11th .
Friday afternoon the divers started it off by competing with 11 dives. Carter Mertz came away with a personal best score of 282.45. Junior Karley Seggerman and Freshman Clara Trantham competed in their first 11 dive meet. Both girls also did very well being first time divers. We look forward to keep watching our divers keep growing as they improve the rest of the season.
The swimmers competed later Friday evening in a triangular meet against
Kearney and Scottsbluff/Gering.
The BNFF girls’ team won against Scottsbluff/Gering 72 to 29, but loss to Kearney by only 2 points, with scores of 50 to 52.
The BNFF boys’ team won against Scottsbluff/Gering 60 to 35, lost to Kearney with the score of 42-55.
Our goal for the Friday double dual was not really to win. Yes, it is a plus to win.
But not the main goal us coaches were looking for. Since we compete in two
meets, back to back days. We had many of our swimmers compete in events they normally do not swim or try events for the first time. It is always good to get a break from what they normally like to compete in and to focus on something else. Giving them a physical break and mental break. I truly believe, while they may have a favorite stroke or event, that being a well-rounded swimmer and compete and train in multiply events, will help keep swimming challenging and interesting. It also helps make them become stronger and faster. Plus, they may find they like that event and really good at it.
Saturday morning, the BNFF competed in the Kearney Invitational. The girl’s team finished in 4th place out of 9 teams. Only 8 points separated the 2nd place team and the 4th place team. Coming into the meet we knew it be close and we had a chance for second. We saw a lot of very close races today. Had some up and down moments. Some moments we know we need to put behind us and know we will get it next meet.
